The Dallas show fucking ROCKED! The arena was almost completely fully
(except for the 300 level seats, which were blocked off with black
barricades). The rest of the arena was pretty packed. The crowd was off the
hook -- I didn't go to Houston, but I saw Tampa and Atlanta, and
this was, by far, the best show yet. Unfortunately, the setlist has yet to
be changed. I was really hoping for a small change, such as Macro or
Question of Lust.
The highlight of the night, however, was when a group of us went to the
hotel that the band typically stays at in Dallas. They usually hang at
the bar there, but, unfortunately that bar had been closed down. We were all
just sitting around in the lobby about to leave. Actually, I had
gone to my car to leave for another potential bar hangout when Alex called
me and said Andy and Christian had just come through the lobby
and signed stuff. So, I hightailed it back upstairs and waited around for a
few minutes when lo and behold Martin Gore walks through the front
doors with his security guys. There was a group of about 15 of us standing
there. We all went up to Martin and he signed my ticket stub, and
everyone else's items (posters, tickets, etc). He seemed a bit out of it
(perhaps drunk), but everyone was very cool about it. Someone took a
couple of pics, but Daryl warned him that it wasn't a photo session.
I told Martin it was a great show and thanked him for signing my ticket.
He wasn't really talking to anyone - just looking at and signing
everyone's stuff. My friend Alex now has her PTA sleeve signed by Andy and
Martin -- all she needs is Dave to finish it off. Speaking of which -
I forgot to mention above -- right after we got to the hotel, Dave walked in
with Kessler, and they shot straight up to his room. At that point in
time, there were only about 6-8 of us sitting on couches in the lobby being
very discreet. So, no-one got a chance to say hello to Dave. Still,
we at least saw him walk through the lobby. In 2001, that hotel was fairly
strict as I was kicked out waiting for the band to arrive, so I was very
surprised this time around when they did absolutely nothing about 15-20 of
us obviously waiting around for the band to arrive. Not that I'm
complaining!
Anyway, off to San Antonio tomorrow!
