NORTHAMPTONSHIRE STEELBACKS V SURREY LIONS at Northampton (CB40), 15 AUGUST 2011

With Durham now level, on points, with Surrey at the head of the Group B table, the Lions travel to Wantage Road seeking to maintain their unbeaten record in this season's Clydesdale Bank 40. Their opponents, Northamptonshire, might be riding high in Division Two of the County Championship, but the Steelbacks have now suffered four successive defeats in the CB40; the last one being at the Oval when these two sides met eleven days ago.

Northamptonshire's attack has struggled, certainly of late, to give their batsmen something to chase down. With Chaminda Vaas likely to be rested for tomorrow's encounter, only Andrew Hall (16 wickets at 21.06 runs apiece) will go into the contest with any real CB40 form behind him with the ball.

The Steelbacks' batting has fired on occasions. Eight batsmen have recorded half-centuries in this summer's CB40. Niall O'Brien (393 runs at an average of 56.14), who has made three, also struck 121 against Hampshire - his one-day career best. If Mal Loye, Stephen Peters and Rob White had also come to the party with the bat, Northants might now be entertaining thoughts of progressing to the knockout phase.

Matthew Spriegel is on the brink of making his 1,000th run is one-day cricket. He currently has 997. Of the Northants contingent, Andrew Hall is one scalp away from 350 List A career wickets.

If there's one thing Chris Adams has put right, it is that Surrey have had precious few injuries this summer. There are no real surprises in the 13-man squad for tomorrow.

At the moment, the only thing that's predictable about Surrey is that they're unpredictable. Moreover, the Lions' recent one-day record at Northampton isn't good. So, the fact Surrey are likely start as the clear favourites means nothing. I'm going for a Steelbacks win.

M Loye, S Peters, N O'Brien (wk), A Wakely, R White, A Hall (capt), J Middlebrook, D Willey, D Lucas, J Brooks and L Daggett.

Richard Kettleborough and Steve O'Shaughnessy.
