SURREY LIONS V DURHAM DYNAMOS at the Brit Oval (TSL2), 30 MAY 2005

After four away trips, Surrey find themselves hosting a totesport League game for a change. With just one win out of their first five in the 45-over competition - and that against bottom-of-the-table Scotland - it is a question of how they can get the nine victories they need out of their last 13 fixtures to even think about promotion.

Thanks to the suicidal tendencies of Kent's batsmen today, Durham are yet to beaten in Division Two, though with two abandonments the Dynamos' lead at the top of the table is probably less than it would have been otherwise.

One of the secrets of Durham's success is that someone normally chips in with a score around which the rest of the innings can be built. So far this summer six of their batsmen have made one-day half-centuries. Top of the Dynamos' batting averages is 22-year-old Gordon Muchall, who has made 93 runs in three knocks for once out. However, their leading run-maker is not Mike Hussey, but Nicky Peng. Hussey will be missing tomorrow, but it's not all good news - his replacement will be Nathan Astle, who has only made over 6,000 runs in one-day internationals for New Zealand!

Ashley Noffke will be making his second competitive appearance of the summer for Durham. During the Queenslander's time with Middlesex he had a creditable limited-overs record of 15 wickets at 29.26 runs apiece and an economy rate of 4.27. But the Dynamos will continue looking to all-rounders Dale Benkenstein and Paul Collingwood plus the future England star Liam Plunkett to do the damage with the ball.

Can we have Harbhajan now? Without him, I have to say I don't fancy our chances - simply because Durham bat all the way down. What Surrey would give right now for an all-round pair like Benkenstein and Collingwood. After eleven straight limited-overs victories against the Dynamos, I'm afraid my head says it will be a third successive defeat at the hands of the Riverside outfit.

Apparently, following today's news about his action Harbhajan Singh was planning to get straight on a plane bound for London. Whether he plays tomorrow remains to be seen. One thing that does look a certainty, however, is that Ian Salisbury will not be making a rare one-day appearance, so Tim Murtagh will get the nod.

N Astle, J Lewis, N Peng, P Collingwood, P Mustard (wk), D Benkenstein (capt), G Muchall, G Breese, A Noffke, L Plunkett and N Killeen.
