SURREY BROWN CAPS V WARWICKSHIRE BEARS at the Brit Oval (Pro40 League), 16 SEPTEMBER 2009

Rikki Clarke's return to the Oval could be a soggy one - the weather forecast for tomorrow night is far from encouraging. So, the viewers on SkySports might be subjected to five hours of Charles Colville asking endless dim-witted questions of his co-commentators in-between the showers. But since the game is on television, expect to see some action. Bill Gordon won't mind - there's only one more match after this one to prepare a wicket for.

The Bears currently have four regulars averaging over 38.00 with the bat in List A one-day cricket. Ian Bell tops their 2009 batting averages with a record of 424 runs at 70.66, including two hundreds. Neil Carter and Jonathan Trott have also reached three figures this summer, while Jim Troughton, with four half-centuries, has been the model of consistency.

With the ball, Warwickshire have been more economical than threatening. Carter, with 13 victims, is their leading wicket-taker. The recent signing of Sri Lanka's Shanthakumaran Sreesanth had added some cutting edge, though, and someone who is not to be under-estimated is 21-year-old seamer Steffan Piolet.

Warwickshire's Jonathan Trott goes into this game with 49 List A career wickets.

After Sunday's drubbing at the hands of Northamptonshire, one might expect wholesale changes, but injuries and various partings of the ways (e.g. James Benning) mean that Surrey have little option but to stick with the same side. The former Northants, Notts and Hampshire seamer Richard Logan is added as cover. The only other surprise, which has now become a constant one, is that Gary Wilson is preferred behind the stumps ahead of Jonathan Batty, who, tomorrow, will be making only his second appearance for the twos since 2003.

Even if Neil Carter misses this match due to the slipped disc he picked up while making a hundred against Kent at the weekend, Warwickshire will be far too strong for Surrey's future stars. The best the Brown Caps can hope for is a no result.
