SURREY V YORKSHIRE at the Kia Oval (Royal London One-Day Cup), 29 JULY 2015

There seems little doubt Surrey's first one-day meeting with Yorkshire in six years will prove a sterner test than Northants, who, other than Ben Duckett, were blown away in just 24 overs yesterday. With their involvement in the NatWest T20 Blast at an end both sides can now concentrate on attacking the Royal London One-Day Cup before, as appears likely, applying the finishing touches to impressive seasons in the County Championship, Yorkshire in Division One and Surrey in Division Two.

Jack Brooks and Steven Patterson are both fresh from taking three-fers, at Derby. But, if the NatWest T20 Blast is anything to go by, the bowlers vital to Yorkshire's cause in limited-overs cricket could well be 17-year-old seamer Matt Fisher (16 T20 wickets at 22.62 runs apiece) and Glenn Maxwell, with his off-breaks.

Gary Ballance will have a point to prove with the bat after being dropped for the Third Test, which also gets under way tomorrow. The 25-year-old left-hander made a vital 69 in yesterday's seven-run victory over Derbyshire. Watch out for Jack Leaning, though. The youngster from Bristol was Yorkshire's leading run-maker in the Blast, with 338 notches at an average of 42.25. In last summer's Royal London One-Day Cup, Leaning averaged 55.00, just ahead of Alex Lees, who was the Vikings' other one-day centurion in 2014.

Yorkshire's Gary Ballance (2,927) is approaching 3,000 List A career runs, while Glenn Maxwell will start with 48 wickets in one-day cricket.

Surrey have named the same 13-man squad as prepared for the Northants game on Monday, so don't expect any changes.

Even with a number of players missing, owing to international duty, Yorkshire are a side to be taken seriously. The key for Surrey will be whether they can dominate from ball one, as they did against Northants. But if Yorkshire stay in the game long enough, you would have to back them to edge it. Prediction - a narrow win for the Yorkies.

A Lees, A Gale (capt), G Maxwell, G Ballance, J Leaning, T Bresnan, L Plunkett, W Rhodes, A Hodd (wk), S Patterson and J Brooks.
