YORKSHIRE V SURREY at Headingley (Royal London One-Day Cup Play-Off), 13 JUNE 2017

Both Surrey and Yorkshire go into the play-offs having won three out of their last four group matches, however the Vikings only slipped up twice in the preliminaries - against Worcestershire at New Road and Warwickshire at Edgbaston. The Tykes' net run rate (+0.865) was also comfortably the best in the North Group, and just shy of Essex's +0.882 in the South.

The most remarkable aspect of Yorkshire's showing in this season's Royal London is that, other than Tim Bresnan and Adil Rashid, their one-day attack has, for the most part, been made up of relative unknowns. Off-spinner Azeem Rafiq has 15 wickets at 23.80 apiece this term while 21-year-old seamer Matthew Waite has ten at 25.60. When he has played, Ben Coad, 23, has repeated his championship form with the ball, averaging just 18.57 runs per victim. Also, Jack Brooks is fit again after missing the entire group phase with a torn calf.

Yorkshire's batting would have a daunting look about it, were it not for the absence of Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root, who averaged 53.60 and 60.25 respectively in the group stage, but are now on England duty in the ICC Champions Trophy; as, of course, is Surrey's Jason Roy. That said, the visitors would do well to put a high price on the wickets of Gary Ballance, who hit 447 runs (average 74.50), and 26-year-old Aussie Peter Handscomb (444 at 63.42), who has doubled up as wicketkeeper. Add in the of Bresnan, Lyth and Waite and the Surrey attack could have its work cut out tomorrow.

Surrey v Yorkshire - List A Records Sheet

Assuming they play, Tom Curran and Ben Foakes will both be making their 50th List A appearance.
Kumar Sangakkara starts with 99 career hundreds - first-class and one-day combined - while Tim Bresnan (2,956) needs 44 more runs for 3,000 in List A cricket.

Jade Dernbach is named in Surrey’s 14-man squad. Arguably the best white ball bowler in county cricket, Dernbach was averaging just 10.70 and had an economy rate of only 3.84 runs per over prior to aggravating a bulging disk in his back at the start of May. Tom Curran also features in the visitors' squad, having just been rested for the County Championship match at Guildford.

As someone who can recall a number of Headingley horrors suffered by Surrey over the years, it came as a surprise to me that the Oval outfit have won each of their last four one-day visits to Leeds. So, purely on on the basis Yorkshire are "due", my head says home win.
