DURHAM DYNAMOS V SURREY at the Riverside (YB40), 26 AUGUST 2013

Since neither side has a mathematical chance of reaching the last four, this would appear to be an ideal time for resting some weary legs and giving a handful of aspiring youngsters a go.

Unlike in the County Championship, Durham's one-day attack is often set-up around the off-spin duo of Gareth Breese and the 21-year-old Ryan Pringle. Breese is averaging just 4.69 runs per over in the Yorkshire Bank 40, while seamers like Chris Rushworth (19 wickets at 20.78 runs apiece), Paul Collingwood and Mark Wood have been the ones to supply the breakthroughs.

With the bat, Phil Mustard can generally be relied upon to get the Dynamos off to a rapid start. The 30-year-old keeper-batsman has a List A career average of 51.57 against Surrey, including a career best 143. Should Mustard fail to cut it, skipper Mark Stoneman and all-rounder Ben Stokes are more than capable of picking up the slack. Durham also have the added advantage of batting all the way down to Breese at number eight.

If they play, Surrey's George Edwards, Freddie van den Bergh and Jack Winslade will be making their List A debuts, and in Winslade's case it would also represent a county debut.

With the likes of Curran, Edwards, Sibley, van den Bergh and Winslade named in Surrey's 13-man squad, it's a case of out with the old and in with the new. As there's no Davies and no Wilson, Rory Burns is set to don the wicketkeeping gloves. If you're wondering about experience, only Gareth Batty, Zander de Bruyn, Jason Roy and Vikram Solanki have more than 22 List A appearances under their belts.

Apologies to Surrey's largely youthful side, but I've got to go with Durham; especially given the way Phil Mustard teed off from the start in the corresponding 40-over fixture last term.
