DURHAM V SURREY at the Riverside (Royal London One-Day Cup), 14 AUGUST 2014

Only someone of a Durham persuasion can be filled with any sense of anticipation for this fixture, because a defeat for the Jets - in their last Group B game - could jeopardise their chances of making the quarter-finals.

Durham appear to have all bases covered on paper. However, all-rounder Ben Stokes, who scored a hundred in Tuesday's win over Notts, is in the England squad for the Oval Test and seamer Graham Onions has picked up a side strain.

Including Stokes, six Jets batsmen have hit at least one half-century in the Royal London One Day Cup. Meanwhile, with the ball, the combination of John Hastings's new ball skills and the medium pace of Paul Collingwood and Paul Coughlin is really paying dividends.

Vikram Solanki looks set to make his 400th appearance in List A cricket at the same time as Jack Winslade could be making his county debut.

Some less than encouraging news coming out of Surrey's squad announcement, not in relation to this match, but in terms of the week ahead: On top of Zafar Ansari, Jade Dernbach and Matthew Dunn carrying injuries, it transpires that Jason Roy injured a finger while representing the England Lions in the recent A-team tri-series with New Zealand and Sri Lanka. The fact that Gareth Batty, Tim Linley, Stuart Meaker and Chris Tremlett are rested for tomorrow suggests they are inked in for the championship clash at Leicester.

Rain - well that's what they're forecasting, and plenty of it, which might not be a bad thing from the visitors' perspective. There's a danger of the Royal London campaign chipping away at the confidence the team has formulated since the start of June. If we get a game, the lack of experience in Surrey's squad could well count against them. Verdict - A Jets win.
