A win over Surrey tomorrow
would all but seal Hampshire a place in the last four of the
Yorkshire Bank 40, not to mention the psychological edge over the
Oval outfit ahead of Saturday's Friends Life T20 semi-final.
The Royals, who have lost three
out of their last four List A clashes with Surrey, come packed with
batting. Michael Carberry (450 YB40 runs at an average of 56.25 this
season), Jimmy Adams, Liam Dawson, James Vince and Adam Wheater are
all averaging 39.00 and over in the Yorkshire Bank 40. And if, should
they fail, Hampshire also have the likes of Sean Ervine and Neil
McKenzine's level-headedness to call upon.
With the ball, the economy of
Dimitri Mascarenhas has blended perfectly with Sohail Tanvir's (13
scalps at 10.76 runs apiece) ability to take wickets at regular
intervals. 23-year-old left-arm seamer Chris Wood is improving all the
time. But, sadly, slow left-armer Danny Briggs has not kicked on in
the way everyone was predicting when he made his ODI debut for England
at the start of 2012.

Chris Tremlett goes into this contest with 174
List A career wickets. On the other side of the coin, Hampshire's
Michael Carberry is just 22 shy of 4,000 List A career runs, while
Neil McKenzie is set to make his 275th List A appearance.
