KENT V SURREY at Beckenham (Royal London One-Day Cup), 5 JUNE 2016

Kent's success in one-day cricket in recent years - they reached the last eight in 2015 and were semi-finalists the year before - is built around a bowling attack that isn't just miserly, but also has a knack of taking wickets at regular intervals. Last summer, Matt Coles, Darren Stevens and James Tredwell all conceded less than 5.00 runs per over in the Royal London One-Day Cup. Coles (16 scalps at 19.00 runs apiece) also took a wicket every 23 deliveries, on average. Likewise the venerable Mitch Claydon, who has since handed the baton to David Griffiths in the shorter forms of the game.

With the bat, the hop county rely on being gifted a good start by Daniel Bell-Drummond (272 runs at an average of 54.40 in last summer's Royal London) and the finishing of Alex Blake and Sam Billings, who, between them clubbed 20 sixes in last year's competition. Just for good measure, Coles and Darren Stevens both hit hundreds last term - Coles against Surrey and Stevens against Glamorgan at Cardiff.

Gary Wilson goes into this game with 2,984 List A career runs, while Stuart Meaker, will, if he plays, will start with 48 List A wickets.

Sam Curran is available again, having celebrated his 18th birthday by featuring in the T20 victory over Sussex at Hove on Friday night. Indeed, it's only a matter of a few weeks before Curran junior puts his school books away for good. Dominic Sibley's place in Surrey's 13-man squad was expected following the 20-year-old's match-winning display, with bat and ball, against Middlesex in the 50-over Second Eleven Trophy.

Somerset 17 Aug 2015 RLC Lost By 3 Wickets Taunton 267 (49.5) 273-7 (46.4)

Admittedly, these two have not come face-to-face all that often in one-day cricket in recent times, but Kent always seem to raise their game against Surrey, who only just scraped through last season's quarter-final thanks to Jason Roy's 112. Had it not also been for Ben Foakes holding his nerve and taking a steepling catch at the death to draw a line under Matt Coles's incredible 100 off 73 balls, the hop county might have extended their successful one-day run over the Oval outfit. One senses Roy and Coles will be key men tomorrow. Prediction - too close to call.
