LEICESTERSHIRE FOXES V SURREY BROWN CAPS at Leicester (Pro40 League), 27 SEPTEMBER 2009

The end of another season. This one and last year's haven't been great for Surrey, but a victory tomorrow would see the Brown Caps better their record of seven wins in all competitions in 2008. The visitors go into the contest with four wins out of four against the Foxes in recent times. but with a number of unfamiliar faces in Surrey's line-up, one would have to expect Leicestershire to start as favourites; especially with one James Benning having a point to prove.

A lack of runs has been the Foxes' undoing on a number of occasions in one-day cricket this summer. Only Benning, Boeta Dippenaar and James Taylor are averaging over thirty this term in List A. With the ball, spinners Claude Henderson and Jigar Naik have been economical, as has overseas seamer Iain O'Brien when he has played. But, to date, no one is in double figures in terms of wickets taken in List A cricket.

Gary Wilson needs 37 more runs for 1,000 in List A one-day cricket.

With no Michael Brown and Usman Afzaal (who has a torn hamstring), young batsmen Tom Lancefield and Jason Roy look set to make their first appearances of the season. In Lancefield's case it will be his first team debut, assuming he plays. Surrey's overseas spinner, Rengana Herath is another notable absentee.

Sorry, but with hardly any experienced batsmen in the Surrey line-up, I fear Leicestershire will win at a canter. That said, it will be interesting to see if any of the young crop can seize the opportunity to make a name for themselves.

J Benning, T New (wk), J du Toit, J Taylor, P Nixon, B Dippenaar (capt), W White, J Naik, C Henderson, N Buck and I O'Brien.
