SURREY BROWN CAPS V DURHAM DYNAMOS at Guildford (Pro40 Division 2), 29 JULY 2007

Curiously, the last seven limited-overs meetings between these two sides plus four out of the last five one-day contests at Guildford have gone to the side batting first. So, weather permitting, it could soon be evident how the game will pan out tomorrow.

West Indian Test star Shivnarine Chanderpaul is set to make his debut for the Dynamos in place of New Zealand's Scott Styris. With Michael Di Venuto fit again, Durham will be a force with the bat, especially when one analyses their opening game victory against Middlesex, in which they batted second under lights and sneaked home. In tricky conditions Phil Mustard, Kyle Coetzer, Dale Benkenstein and Gordon Muchall all made useful contributions with the bat.

Durham's bowling was as much a factor in them reaching the Friends Provident Trophy final. Even without Mark Davies and Graham Onions, there are a number of threats in the shape of Ottis Gibson, Gareth Breese and Liam Plunkett, of course, who helped to destroy Surrey when these two sides went head to head at the Riverside two years ago.

To follow... sorry.

Alistair Brown, James Benning and Jimmy Ormond have all been called up from stints in the second eleven, suggesting that tomorrow's match will represent a trial ahead of the Brown Caps' next four-day clash, against Kent at Canterbury. Mohammad Akram and Ian Salisbury are both fit to play again, but are not considered.

Durham have been on fire in one-day cricket this summer, reaching the final of the FP Trophy, while Surrey's main priority seems to be avoiding relegation the championship. What I am trying to say (badly) is that I don't quite fancy the Brown Caps for this one.
