SURREY LIONS V DURHAM DYNAMOS at the Kia Oval (CB40), 29 AUGUST 2011

Seeing as this could well be a dress rehearsal for one of the semi-finals, the incentive for Surrey has to be maintaining their winning run, which currently stands at 10 successive one-day victories. Here's a factoid for you - the club record is eleven, set at the end of 2002 and the beginning of 2003. Durham will be assured of progression to the last four should they win or lose by a narrow margin. The Dynamos' only real threat comes from Nottinghamshire, who can match Durham's points tally and qualify on Net Run Rate if they crush Lancashire.

Seven of Durham's batsmen are averaging over forty in the Clydesdale Bank 40 this term, including Gordon Muchall (405 runs at an average of 81.00), who tops the competition's national batting averages. Curiously, Michael Di Venuto has only been pressed into action twice, hitting half-centuries on each occasion. One piece of good news for Surrey is that Ben Stokes is not expected to be available, ahead of England's one-day series against India.

With the ball, the Dynamos' Graham Onions and slow left-armer Ian Blackwell have been miserly, while Mitchell Claydon (18 wickets at 19.33 runs apiece) has been the partnership-breaker. But Durham also have a couple of useful fringe bowlers up their sleeves in 25-year-old seamer Chris Rushworth and 21-year-old Mark Wood.

Tom Maynard (1,491) and Chris Schofield (1,957) are closing in on 1,500 and 2,000 List A runs respectively.
If they play, this will be the 75th List A appearance for Durham's Will Smith, while Callum Thorp currently has 49 List A career wickets to his name.

Pragyan Ojha is included in the Surrey squad in place of the injured Yasir Arafat (elbow). With Jade Dernbach being rested ahead of the NatWest series between England and India, another change is likely to be the recall, to the Lions' one-day line-up, of Tim Linley, fresh from his first-class career best of 6-57 against Leicestershire. The only other decision for Rory Hamilton-Brown to ponder seems to be whether to stick with the leg-spin of Chris Schofield or turn to the raw pace of Stuart Meaker.

Surrey's one-day record against Durham in recent years is pretty woeful and the Lions' have not posted a total over 265 against the Dynamos for 15 years. That would almost certainly be no match for Durham's bristling batting line-up. I hope I am wrong, but something tells me Surrey's victorious run might come to an abrupt end tomorrow.
