SURREY LIONS V DURHAM DYNAMOS at the Kia Oval (CB40), 20 MAY 2012

Surrey go into tomorrow’s CB40 clash with Durham with just a single defeat in fifteen one-day outings - and that one was, of course, at the hands of the Dynamos.

Last weekend Durham, one of last year’s losing semi-finalists, got their CB40 campaign underway with a 14-run victory over Somerset at the Riverside, where Gordon Muchall and Will Smith starred with the bat and Liam Plunkett did the most telling damage with the ball.

If Durham’s championship form is anything to go by, it should be noted that not one of the Dynamos’ batsmen are averaging over 25.00 in four-day cricket this term. In last summer's CB40, however, the dangers were Muchall, who averaged 67.50, Stokes, Collingwood and Mustard; with Blackwell, who hit ten sixes, playing the role of master blaster. With the ball, Mitchell Claydon led the way with 21 wickets at 21.28 runs apiece, while Graham Onions and Ian Blackwell specialised in applying the brakes.

Team news for the visitors - they are likely to be without Dale Benkenstein (dislocated shoulder) and Ben Stokes (knee).

Steven Davies, with 145, is approaching 150 List A one-day dismissals. For Durham, Paul Collingwood is set to make his 375th List A appearance.

There are no surprises in Surrey's 13-man squad, which was announced today. Zafar Ansari, who missed the trip to Edinburgh, returns to the fold, as does Jade Dernbach, who sat out this week's championship draw with Somerset.

Given that the Dynamos have won six of their last seven one-day meetings with Surrey, you might expect me to use that to backup words of caution, but no. Durham's batsmen are really struggling for form right now, so the Lions would appear to have a real chance to turn the formbook on its head. Surrey win.

M Stoneman, P Mustard (wk), P Collingwood (capt), G Muchall, W Smith, I Blackwell, G Breese, S Borthwick, L Plunkett, M Claydon and G Onions.

Mark Eggleston and Trevor Jesty.
