SURREY LIONS V GLAMORGAN DRAGONS at the Brit Oval (CB 40League), 4 AUGUST 2010

Having just seen the weather forecast for tomorrow, there doesn't seem a great deal of point doing a preview. But, you never know, the forecasters have been known to get it wrong in the past; although, to be fair, they've been more or less spot on this summer, which is more than can be said for me and my predictions!

Surrey go into this match having won four out of six in this season's Clydesdale Bank 40, while Glamorgan have lost four out of six. So, the form book suggests the Lions are in with a decent chance of getting their forty-over campaign back on track. But the last week or so has seen them go from the massive high of beating Northants by an innings to losing by an innings to Middlesex of all people. So, don't write the Welshmen off.

The Dragons' batting line-up contains just two batsmen who are currently averaging over 35 from three or more visits to the crease in the CB40 - Mark Cosgrove and Tom Maynard - to the Lions' four. Glamorgan's skipper, Jamie Dalrymple has really struggled to make an impression with the bat, while pinch-hitters Jim Allenby and Robert Croft have been more miss than hit.

When the Welshmen have got their act together it has invariably been down to their bowling attack. Will Owen has been the stand-out performer with 10 wickets, so far, at 12.10 runs apiece in the CB40. But the Dragons' forte have been keeping a lid on the scoring rate thanks, primarily, to Allenby, Cosker and Croft.

Glamorgan's Jim Allenby goes into this clash with 49 List A career wickets.

Although Surrey lost both of their T20 clashes with Glamorgan, the Lions' recent record at home to the Welshmen in List A cricket should be a source of encouragement after two embarrassing defeats - to Somerset in the CB40 and Middlesex in the champo. If the weather holds the Lions are more than capable of winning this one, but do they believe that?
