SURREY V WELSH DRAGONS at the Kia Oval (CB40), 21 AUGUST 2012

While this match is all about paying tribute to the life and career of Tom Maynard, Surrey could do with a victory. Indeed, the Oval outfit need to win their two remaining Group B matches and hope the Hampshire Royals lose to the Durham Dynamos on Bank Holiday Monday to guarantee a place in the semi-final draw.

One glance at Glamorgan’s CB40 batting averages tells a story. Just two of their batsmen have made over two hundred runs in this year’s competition - 26-year-old Chris Cooke (218 runs at an average of 31.14) and skipper Mark Wallace, furthermore no one is averaging over 32.

While the Dragons’ attack has been more economical than most, only two bowlers have captured ten wickets - Jim Allenby (10 scalps at 15.00 runs apiece) and Simon Jones, who has gone for 6.12 runs per over. The key appears to be Dean Cosker, whose slow left-arm has so far produced an economy rate of 4.36.

Three bowlers have one-day milestones in their sights - Gareth Batty (196 List A career wickets), Zander de Bruyn (148) and Murali Kartik (248). For the Welsh Dragons, Mark Wallace is set to make his 175th appearance in all one-day cricket and Graham Wagg, with 97, is closing in on one hundred List A career wickets.

Surrey have named an unchanged team, so it should be a case of "ditto". The news on Chris Tremlett's knee injury isn't good. The England seamer is thought unlikely to feature again this summer.

Surrey have a decent record against the Welshman, having won seven of the last eight one-day meetings between the two sides, plus they have it all to play for whereas the Dragons cannot qualify from the group. Verdict - Surrey win.
