William Hill Sports
SUSSEX V SURREY at Horsham (LVCC1), 6-9 JUNE 2012

The weather forecasters are predicting that the fourth day will be generally dry. The first three, however, are likely to be at the mercy of the weather, which does not bode well for either side, who need a victory to put some daylight between themselves and the relegation zone.

Both teams also go into this contest on the back of defeats in the County Championship. Last week, Sussex lost to Middlesex by ten wickets. Apart from Ben Brown, who made 70 and 53 at Lord's, and Chris Nash, who is averaging 42.90 in four-day cricket, the Martlets' top order just isn't firing right now. With only 118 runs in 11 innings to date, Murray Goodwin has been a shadow of his former self; so much so that the clever money is on him being dropped for this clash.

Sussex's attack, led by Australian Steve Magoffin (18 championship wickets at 23.77 runs apiece), has generally held its own. Left-arm seamer Naved Arif, who is averaging 26.40, has chipped in, but it must be a concern that, at times, Michael Yardy has had to turn to the part-time spin of Nash and Wells to end a partnership.

Rory Hamilton-Brown is set to make his 50th appearance in first-class cricket, while Jade Dernbach, with 197, is approaching 200 f-c career wickets.

The changeover of overseas player is likely to result in two alterations to the side that lost to Warwickshire, with Murali Kartik, who replaces Chris Jordan, making his championship debut for Surrey and Mark Ramprakash filling the number four spot vacated by Jacques Rudolph. The news on Chris Tremlett's back injury is encouraging, but he has not been named in the Oval outfit's 13-man squad.
