SUSSEX SHARKS V SURREY LIONS at Hove (CB 40League), 4 SEPTEMBER 2010

Not even Kevin Pietersen could help maintain Surrey's hopes of making the last four of the Clydesdale Bank 40, so the only thing riding on this contest is whether Sussex can sneak a semi-final place. But even if the Sharks prevail tomorrow, they will only progress if Yorkshire beat Essex, in Group B, up at Headingley.

With Michael Yardy, who is averaging 72 in the CB40, away on international duty, the home side will be without their captain and, arguably, their most dangerous batsman. That said, Sussex's opening pair - Chris Nash (404 runs @ 40.40) and Ed Joyce - are averaging over forty in the competition; as are both keeper-batters Matt Prior and Andrew Hodd.

James Kirtley, who is set to make his final appearance for the Martlets, has led the way with the ball for the Sharks in this summer's CB40; taking 21 wickets at 19.76 runs apiece. But other than the two spinners - Monty Panesar and Ollie Rayner - the Sussex attack has not always been economical.

Sussex's Chris Nash is set to make his 50th appearance in List A cricket.

Don't be surprised if Surrey rest Ramprakash and Tremlett, which could mean the likes of Jason Roy, Matt Dunn and even Zafar Ansari getting a game.

Glamorgan 4 Aug 2010 NL Won By 39 Runs The Oval 386-3 (38) 187-5 (20)

Surrey have lost three out of their last four in the CB40 and the one game they did manage to win was only against the Unicorns. So, with Sussex harbouring hopes of a place in the last four, they'll have much the greater incentive. Verdict - Sharks victory.
