WORCESTERSHIRE V SURREY at Worcester (Metro Bank One-Day Cup)
26 AUGUST 2025
Second in Group A
hosts sixth. Surrey's Metro Bank campaign was always going to be a
rollercoaster, with the expectation that there would be more downs
than ups. However, the largely fresh-faced Oval outfit go into this
contest having put together back-to-back victories, over Derbyshire
and Notts. Meanwhile, Worcestershire, who, with first and third
(Gloucestershire and Hampshire) meeting in the final round of group
fixtures, look handily placed in terms of progressing to the
competition's knockout phase. The Pears have lost only the once - to
Gloucestershire - since opening their account with a tie against
Notts at Sookholme.
While Jake Libby
(372 Metro Bank runs at an average of 62.00) and Brett D'Oliveira
(358 at 51.14) have starred with the willow, Kashif Ali and Rob
Jones have also hit hundreds. But the key to Worcestershire's
success this term has been the bowling of Ben Allison (15 wickets at
17.86 runs apiece). Watch out for 19-year-old left-hander Daniel
Lategan, who has enjoyed knocks of 42 not out, 46 and 34.
Worcestershire
will be honouring Josh Baker, who passed away last year, by
encouraging fans to wear 'Blue for Bakes' in Josh's memory, and by
raising funds for the Josh Baker Foundation.

celebrate his 35th birthday by notching up 2,000 List A career runs.
Worcestershire's skipper Jake Libby (1,983 runs) is approaching the
same milestone, while Rob Jones (1,442) is closing in on 1,500.
Pakistan's Khurram Shahzad looks set to make his 50th List A
appearance.

Surrey have named an unchanged 12-strong squad of men and boys.

Surrey and Worcestershire rarely go head to head. Since 1990,
they've met just 17 times in List A cricket; and only twice since
2010, both of which Surrey won after racking up scores in excess of
300. Surely the under-strength South Londoners can't round things off
in the Metro Bank with three wins out of three, can they?

D.Lategan, B.D'Oliveira, K.Ali, J.Libby (capt), R.Jones, H.Cullen (wk), M.Waite,
F.Singh, B.Allison, B.Gibbon and K.Shahzad.

Connor McGarry and Jack Shantry.
