WORCESTERSHIRE V SURREY at Worcester (Royal London One-Day Cup Semi-Final), 17 JUNE 2017

Surrey, who finished third in the South Group, meet Worcestershire, the winners of the North in a mouth-watering Royal London One-Day Cup semi-final at New Road.

On paper, the visitors seem to have little to fear in terms of Worcestershire's batting, following the departure to Yorkshire of Tom Kohler-Cadmore - the Rapids' only century-maker in this year's Royal London. That said Mooen Ali returns, following England's exit from the ICC Champions Trophy; but so does Jason Roy, which will bring greater balance to Surrey's batting order.

Kohler-Cadmore apart, 33-year-old opener and former skipper Daryl Mitchell (250 runs at an average of 41.66) is the only Worcestershire player with more than a solitary half-century in 50-over cricket this season. That said, keeper-batsman Ben Cox (264 at 33.00) has been consistent with the willow and, with so many tipping him for great things, Joe Clarke has to be taken seriously.

A key to the Rapids' success in this competition has been the part-time bowling of leg-spinner Brett D'Oliveira and Mitchell, a purveyor of deceptive dibbly dobblers. Between them they have taken 13 wickets in this summer's Royal London, striking every 38 balls and conceding just five runs an over. Joe Leach, while expensive, has given himself the role of partnership breaker, but the key men, in terms of both their economy and wicket-taking potential, are left-arm seamer Jack Shantry and Australia's John Hastings.

Surrey v Worcestershire - List A Records Sheet

Worcestershire's Ross Whiteley will start tomorrow's Royal London semi-final with 999 List A career runs.

Surrey's 13-man squad includes Jason Roy for only the third time this summer. Rory Burns and Ollie Pope are also named, as is Stuart Meaker, who was twelfth man for the trip to Headingley.

Surrey haven't lost a one-day game at New Road since 1997, although that counts for very little since they have only played there four times in the last two decades; and not since 2010. More striking is that, prior to that run, Surrey's first 13 List A visits to Worcester produced just two victories - in 1979 (B&H Cup) and 1989 (Sunday League).
