YORKSHIRE V SURREY at Scarborough (RCC)
22-25 JULY 2025

Eighth in Division One play host to the new leaders. Surrey moved ahead of Notts following the last round of matches, but the South Londoners' advantage is a solitary point - 140 to Notts' 139. Yorkshire meanwhile have notched up just 91 points from nine games, although they will be buoyed by their 10-wicket victory a few weeks ago over Essex at York, where the visitors were blown away for 131 in their second dig; Jack White and Ben Coad sharing the spoils.

White has now taken 29 championship wickets at 21.65 and Coad 21 at 29.80, but George Hill (37 at just 16.67) has been this summer's leading light with the ball for Yorkshire. Jordan Thompson has chipped in with 15 at 27.20, while the spin duties have been shared by Dom Bess (with only modest success) and Dan Moriarty.

If Jonny Bairsow (595 championship runs at an average of 49.58), Adam Lyth (827 at 51.68) and Matthew Revis (441 at 55.12) are on song with the willow then so is Yorkshire's batting, which will be strengthened by the arrival of Pakistan's Imam-Ul-Haq. Revis hit a match-winning career best 150 against Essex in the last round.

Dom Sibley goes into this contest leading the race to become the first player to record 1,000 first-class runs for the season. Sibley has 976. Sussex's Tom Haines has 943, Northants' Saif Zaib 919, Kent's Ben Compton 912 and Derbyshire's Wayne Madsen 903. With the ball, Yorkshire all-rounder George Hill (with 42 victims) is currently top of the f-c wicket-takers' list.

Surrey v Yorkshire - First-Class Records Sheet

Will Jacks and Dan Lawrence will start with 46 and 48 first-class career wickets respectively. Dan Worrall (392) is approaching the 400-mark, while Ravi Sai Kishore will debut with 192 f-c career wickets to his name. Turning to the hosts... Imam-Ul-Haq looks set for his first outing in county cricket at the top of the order. Adam Lyth, Matthew Revis and Jack White have 48, 45 and 143 f-c career wickets respectively.

Ben Foakes is ruled out with the back injury he picked up in his only T20 Blast South Group appearance, so Josh Blake will don the keeper's gloves (as he did for the run-fest vs Durham). Sam Curran is being rested.
Tom Lawes and Ollie Sykes have been named in the PCC XI squad due to take on Pakistan A. Nathan Smith is on international duty with New Zealand, but Indian spinner Ravi Sai Kishore looks set to make his county debut. Jamie Overton, Cam Steel and James Taylor are also named in the visitors' squad.

Four-day matches at Scarborough usually throw up a positive result, but with the Kookaburra and rain forecast for day one, now that might be a tad optimistic. I fear this has 'Draw' written all over it.
