YORKSHIRE V SURREY at Headingley (RCC)
15-18 MAY 2026
This Division One clash sees
eighth play host to third. Both sides have just one win so far, but
Yorkshire find themselves at the wrong end of the table due to
losses to Hampshire and Warwickshire.
Surrey contested another
run-laden draw last week, with Notts, after which Gareth Batty, the
South Londoners' head coach said: "We were playing the current
champions, and they showed why. But I was pleased with our efforts,
even though it petered out to a draw.
"If you look at Dan Worrall, his skill-set in that first spell he
bowled in the game... lots of people have struggled to swing this
‘26 Dukes ball, but he seemed to swing it at will both ways. We know
he's a wonderful performer and has been for a period of time.
"I thought we really came together as a group. We let Notts off in
periods, but it could have been a different story, so we'll have to
address the chances we keep missing."
Other than in Joe Root's two
appearances, Yorkshire have found runs hard to come by. Root is
averaging 64.33, but Jonny Bairstow (109 runs at 16.60) has looked
totally out of sorts, while James Wharton has only put together one
score of note.
In the absence of seamer Ben
Coad (thigh strain), Jack White (17 wickets at 20.88 runs apiece),
George Hill (17 at 26.47) and off-spinner Dom Bess (16 at 36.00)
have enjoyed some success with the ball - as has Root, who has
bagged 8 victims at 18.25.
Surrey v
Yorkshire - First-Class Records Sheet

Jordan Clark (291) is approaching a 300th
first-class wicket, while Tom Lawes (96) needs four more for one
hundred. Turning to the hosts, if he plays Brad Sylvester will be
making his professional debut at the age of 18. Jonny Baistow
(14,912) is closing in on 15,000 f-c career runs, while Dom Bess
(3,901), George Hill (2,963) and Logan van Beek (2,989) all have
significant runs landmarks coming into view.

Gus Atkinson (concussion) and Ollie Pope (right thumb) join
Ben Foakes (side strain) on the injured list, while James Taylor
(who took a career best 6-52 and 4-54 for Kent last week) remains out
on loan. Matt Fisher looks set to return against his old county, after
sitting out the draw at Trent Bridge. Josh Blake is also named in the
visitors' squad.

If the rain forecast for Monday materialises, Surrey's first
four-day visit to Headingley since 2017 looks set to be a three-day
affair, so the draw looks the most likely outcome unless Dan Worrall
can get the ball hooping like he did on day one at Trent Bridge.
